About us

MEET YOUR HOSTS

Professional wildlife photographers Ann and Steve Toon

We’re UK-based wildlife photographers with a passion for Africa, its wildlife and wild places. We spend six months each year photographing in African game parks and have been visiting for more than 20 years, so we’ve plenty of experience in safari photography. We run numerous photo workshops, have written books about how to capture better wildlife photographs and have lectured to degree students on the subject, so we’re well placed to help you with advice and tips and ensure you get the maximum return from all the wonderful photo opportunities our safaris offer.

Before becoming full time photographers we were both senior magazine journalists. We continue to have a deep interest in telling stories through words and pictures. We’ve written and photographed hundreds of articles for dozens of magazines and newspapers around the world, and we’ve campaigned on important conservation issues such as rhino poaching. Our work has appeared in countless photography and wildlife magazines including premium titles such as National Geographic and BBC Wildlife. Our work has been recognised in major competitions, including:

  • Bird Photographer of the Year 2020 – Commended in the Birds in the Environment category
  • GDT European Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2019 – Runner up in the Mammals category
  • Travel Photographer of the Year 2019 – Finalist
  • Travel Photographer of the Year 2018 – Finalist
  • Nature Images Awards 2013 – Winner of the IUCN grant for Conservation Photography

WHAT WE OFFER

Why book a specialist photographic safari with us?

We love sharing our passion for Africa with others. Whether you’re an experienced photographer or just starting out, we’re on hand throughout to guide your experience and help you get the most from your photography and your whole trip. We always put our guests first and work hard to ensure they have a memorable, rewarding and enjoyable safari.

Our photo safaris have been designed to exploit the rich photographic potential at each destination and we spend as much time as possible out in the field, maximizing the wonderful light, subjects and conditions at the times of year we travel. You’ll enjoy some of the best wildlife photography Africa has to offer, but you’ll also find excellent accommodation, good food and great company to welcome you home at the end of each photographic session or activity.

We pride ourselves on the fact that all our trips offer photographers ‘added value’ when compared to the conventional African photo tour, whether it’s custom-built photo boats, cutting edge hides, nocturnal big game photography, low level elephant hides, outstanding leopard photography, or aerial photography by helicopter.

At every destination our own expertise on the ground is supplemented by specialist local guides and rangers with an intimate knowledge of the locations and a clear understanding of what demanding wildlife photographers need. With more than 20 years’ experience photographing in Africa as professional photographers we feel confident you’ll enjoy what these specially selected safari destinations can bring to your photography.
